Women’s Center

Join the movement to create the future of Women’s Housing.

The Challenge

On any given night, there are 3,179 unhoused women in San Francisco.

More than 90% of unhoused women report experiencing severe physical or sexual abuse at some point in their lives.

Co-ed shelters and permanent housing are not safe for women. San Francisco currently offers gender-specific shelter, treatment and transitional housing beds to 5% of the female-identified population.

Our Solution

We're launching San Francisco's first Women's Center—a bright, positive space where anyone who identifies as a woman can find housing, safety, healthy food, and a sense of community and belonging. Our one-stop-shop model will ensure that women get immediate care and are set on a pathway to mental health support, long-term housing, and job opportunities.

Additionally, Community Forward is passionate about taking part in revitalizing downtown San Francisco. Through the Women’s Center, residents, regardless of their housing status, will be welcomed and businesses will be protected and celebrated. We envision a UN Plaza that is a destination for experiencing authentic community and a gem in the heart of San Francisco. It is only through the power of community, trust, and inclusion that UN Plaza will return to its vibrancy.
